As someone who’s born in the 1990s i was lucky enough to go through the technological revolution that was internet. We went through the trouble of browsing internet over a dial up connection to current 5G networks. From bulky telephones to mobile phones. Sms to Whatsapp and video calling. VHS tapes to CD/DVDs/ BR Discs and Netflix. Orkut to Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok. List goes on.
Most of us remember our parents being a bit hesitant to try out these technologies. Many of us made fun of our parents for not adapting to new social media platforms. The other day i realized i might be behaving like them in terms of adaptation to video based social media platforms like Insta reels, Youtube shorts etc. I have been wanting to get into these platforms for a while. But I cant figure out the right content. May be i could put some real time and effort into it and make some useful stuff. As in i don’t have to copy some dance moves and put that as a reel. May be there are no right or wrong content. Or may be its my introverted ass making excuses. It must be the same kind of hesitation our parents generation must have had when they were introduced to facebook.
(Man… I’m getting old.. )

The next thing we gotta get into in order to keep up with the Gen Z is the Virtual Reality and the Metaverse. As much as we want to whine about the cons of the metaverse, its going to be the next step in evolution of social media. Obviously I’m a bit skeptical about Meta. It also require some investments around 30-35k to get a decent VR set as well. But for now you can at least get yourself used to the concept via Decentraland.
Once a new technology rolls over you, if you’re not part of the steamroller, you’re part of the road.
