Now this is a controversial topic. I personally believe as an adult one must have absolute freedom about what he/she can put inside their body. From my experience as a Psychiatry resident I have seen a heck load of patients with alcohol dependence and seen how their families are affected. I mean if government was so concerned about our health, they would have banned alcohol and cigarettes. But that’s not the case.
People who are demonizing Marijuana should read history and should know what led to ban on the same and how united states has further pushed the ban down our throat. It’s been proven that the so called “war on drugs” was an utter failure. The west has finally realized this, came out of Nixon-Reagan era and started moving towards decriminalization. Lot of research is currently going on medicinal use of marijuana, as an opioid substitute for pain management in terminal patients, for seizure disorders etc. Unfortunately we are always 10-20years behind the west. We are demonizing something which was legal and had deep roots in our culture in the first place.
I’m definitely not suggesting every high school kid should go and try Marijuana. But one should realize the hypocrisy of our policy makers.
